Hello I have a 2004 727k2 and my fan shaft seal on the hydro pump is leaking bad. Any one know how to change it? No one around here will work on it. It seems to be coming apart looks like a plastic trash bag wrapped around the shaft. I didn't realize It was part of the seal until I started pulling it off the shaft then it really started leaking.

Depends on which end it is of the HG PR pump. Fan end requires install a charge pump kit; unless, you can figure the seal size. The drive end it is the removal of a snap ring. Of course the fan assembly or drive pulley has to be removed.

Most shops will not repair hydro pumps, pump motors, or transaxles because it is labor intensive, costly, and risky to repair and it not leak again. Then the shop has to eat the labor to make it right. It is remove and replace normally for shops when it comes to hydros, as well as not rebuilding engines.

says it's a grasshopper part and fits my 2004 727k2, so I ordered it. I figured that's the only way to find out. Now how to remove and replace it, I don't know. My cousin is a millwright and thinks he can do it. I will let you know how it goes. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

The truth is most repair shops are not qualified to be called a repair shop. Dealers will replace crankshaft seals in engines and tear down engines to replace camshafts, governor gears, and leaking sumps on engines, but won't even replace the input shaft seal on a hydro. To them if it is leaking then , it has to be replaced.
And most of the time a hydro rebuild isn't more labor intensive then replacing the drive belt on some riders. I have done 3 charge pump replacements due to the leaking/warping aluminum charge pump covers on hydro-gear, and did a replacement input shaft and seal on a hydro-gear pump due to a failing bearing just this year.
I have rebuilt several z turn and rider style hydros in both hydro-gear and the k46 through k71 tuff-torq. Including rebuilding hydro-gear units under warranty. I'm sorry but if a shop isn't willing or able to do a hydrostat repair then they need to close their doors, because they are not qualified to call themselves a repair shop. I bet those same shops wouldn't be able to spend 5 hours removing and replacing an engine due to a faulty ignition module, or 4 hours to remove and replace an engine for a simple carb rebuild.

I was going by the HG PR-5GQC-FY1X-X1XX and the PR-5JQC-FY1X-X1XX pump number and the HG IPL which doesn't list that seal nor the charge cover square o-ring. If your remove the charge pump cover that o-ring should also be replaced or you will have leaks. HG wants to sell a charge pump kit instead. Provided the 2004 727k2 IPL that lists the seal PN your provide then the o-ring would be 130020. Also if you remove charge pump cover pay extra attention to it orientation. They can be directional.
Also depending if the charge cover ever has been changed as the style seal used. Here is a copy of the service bulletin.
I don't know why HG don't list PN for these. When I deal HG pumps I tend to lean on HG for the correct parts since I am a warranty center.

Yes. Here is an image the kit parts. It appears that both style seals are included. But I never order that kit as there has been no need here.
When I get kits in I try to note in the SKU's file as to the PN included in the kit. This has saved me numerous times when I need only a couple seals that otherwise available. I do having to throw out a lot good parts in a kit when I only needed a particular seal. When you need one or two seals from a $46 kit it seems so wasteful.
If someone has this kit on have hand HG tends to put all the PNs on the label. From there I could try to see if HG sell that separately. I call my distributor this morning to see if they can grab a list of the included parts. But they are on the lazy side.
