Caught fire now smoking

So 17.5 hp vertical shaft. I had a senior moment the head end caught fire for a minute or two, now when I start it ,it's burning oil something bad. I'm assuming valve seals or something? It will start run a few seconds then die, it'll restart. Like it's starving of gas. Also the smoking. Any thoughts. Please be kind. 😁
 
If single cylinder OHV intek engine the valve cover gasket could be leaking and dripping on the muffler which could be what lead to the fire. Fire could also damaged the wiring going to the fuel solenoid on the carb which could explain the lack of fuel issue if that is what it is.
 
Hello Newbie:

We need the numbers that are stamped into the valve rocker cover to properly reference what engine you have.

What color is the smoke? Black is excess fuel, blue/white is oil usually.

Sounds like the engine fan cover needs to be removed and the engine cylinder cooling fins need a good cleaning out.

This could have overheated bad enough to weaken the head gasket but let take one thing at a time.

So it hydro locked cylinder full of fuel, I pulled the spark plug, rolled it over and lit her off. A real senior moment.

What is even more exciting is do that with a flooded chainsaw between your legs when it ignites. (spark plug out) Looks like a fire breathing dragon at the crotch vital area on fire. It gets worse trying to whack out the britches flames without severely bruising your vitals.
You will not ever forget such.
 
I don't know if you can see in the picture but the intake push rod is real shiny the exhaust is kind of dull Gray when I pulled the rocker cover off there's kind of metallic looking oil laying in the bottom of it? Any thoughts
 
I don't know if you can see it I cranked it over it fired Blue smoke I shut it right off and it pumped all this oil out through the rocker head should this much oil be pumping into the rocker area1000006914.jpg
 
You don't try to run these engines with the cover off.

With the valve/rocker cover off, it will quickly sling all the oil out of the engine. The cover keeps the oil in.

This is the concept with most small engines with "splash" lubrication. Even the ones with oil pumps do this.
 
Ok Thank you. So it appears maybe I have a bad push rod I thought they should be the same, the exhaust has balls on the tip the intake is more oval here is a picture would that explain why I'm blowing oil into my intake I believe1000006922.jpg
