Simplicity, new battery won't start

I have a Simplicity Regent 14 hp riding mower model 1692354. I've mowed the lawn once this year with the mower and it started up fine. I moved it from the barn to get to something else and went to move it back in about 8 hours later and It wouldn't start the other day so I thought it might be the battery it's a 2018. It would try to start but not turn over. I bought another battery actually two of them. One was a 300 CCA but that wouldn't turn it over so I bought a 340 CCA and that wouldn't turn it over. The one I'm replacing is a 350 CCA. The 340 CCA battery just sounds like it's trying to turn over a little more than a click. Do I need a minimum of 350 CCA battery or is there something else happening. Thanks

This proves what I was saying about CCA ratings and starting engines a while back.

Starter only pulls like 35 to 50 amps. One can install an 8D 18 wheeler tractor battery and still not turn the engine over. So don't get all wrapped up in CCA ratings. Starter only has XX amount of torque to spin the engine over.

Also CCA is cold cranking amps measured at 0F. Are you cutting your grass at 0 degrees F? Another reason to not dwell on CCA or CA ratings.

Most likely the valves are way out of spec or you have possible cylinder flooding with gas.

Pull your oil dip stick and smell for gas. If you smell gas let us know and DON'T run the engine.

I have cleaned the engine block and fins this year. I try to every spring

I added oil because it seems to use oil. Sometimes it looks like it's coming out of exhaust end. I will smell if there's gas present. I will pull spark plug and try this. I did put a new spark plug in yesterday but didn't try this test. Thanks

Does this thing have an automatic choke, or do you have to manually choke it to start?
 
let us know if it spins with the spark plug out. That test will tell a lot.

Regardless, clean all the ground connections to be sure they are clean.
