Hey you all this year has been a coil changing year and replacement coils are what I have noticed not what they used to be, I ordered from several places and the poor results are the same, even from John Deere down to Amazon, won't fire at all or skips, some last only few minutes, what kind of results are all getting or can good ones be found, never faced this issue before, thanks in advance for you opinion and suggestions, Joe

Ever had a case where all the engines were working one day then after a storm have 5 coils failures the very next day?

So glad they removed that huge lightning rod here that keep drawing strikes I even got shock in my own shop and that tower was 3/4 of mile away.

As for coils most times OEM coils are good but even with them you will find a bad one every so often. But quality control is usually better than those after market ones.

Also remember to check the kill wire for voltage spikes as you turn off the ignition switch [battery powered units] which will kill coils.

StarTech, luck that shock did not fry you like chicken in deep grease, I actually removed the kill wire and tested one to fire on the last repair job and another engine the fire looks like a snake wiggling in the grass, and that was a john deere OEM Kawasaki, this has been the year of the coils and the worse coils ever, if the rest of the season goes that way may consider just quitting mower repairs, I am 74 my tolerance is getting thinner, I started working on Motors when I was 10 we would get them at the trash pine, some you and I know about, Clinton, Briggs with hand crank handles, Tecumseh,
