    Anyone try Valvoline Restore & Protect oil in their older small engines?

    The subject of my question was not an additive, but an oil (VR&P). Of course, all modern engine oils have additives. But, yes, be careful of separate/later additives. If I don't have better on hand, I do use STP Oil Treatment as an engine assembly lube.

    Anyone try Valvoline Restore & Protect oil in their older small engines?

    My never-rebuilt CH22 is now 31 years old, and is starting to show its age a little. I just replaced the oil and filter, but now am reading about Valvoline Restore and Protect oil giving interesting results in cleaning older automotive engines (rings, etc.). Anyone tried that oil in their...

    Kohler CH22 starving for gas

    I'm late to the party, and have not read the whole thread, but for what it is worth to the OP: I have the CH22 (1995) too. And have had the same problem several times. Over the decades I replaced the carb, filter, hoses, checked the fuel tank's dip tube for cracks or holes, cleaned out the...

    New drain plug design

    Yup. Fortunately, Walmarts with auto centers take up to 5 gallons of used oils per day for free here. Elsewhere too? I think the quick oil change places do too. One here takes, at least formerly did, used antifreeze too -- the other big offender from DIYs. The county's hazardous waste...

    New drain plug design

    Good! Despite a drain extension, my CH22 still drains onto the frame and linkages on my tractor. Post a pic when you can, please. Old saying: "In public forums, if no picture, it does not exist." {Although AI is making verification of stuff harder ...}

    Kohler Engine With Foamy Oil

    Hope not! My CH22 is almost 30, and still going strong. Knock on wood, and lots of oil/filter changes.

    Kohler ZT 740 engine stuck!

    Or maybe a defective oil filter that restricted flow? I'd drain and cut it apart to see.

    Engine stops more quickly after shutoff than before

    Due to the fins' cleaning (a good thing), the engine is running cooler. So tolerances are likely smaller, which could explain the former "looseness" at shutdown. However, other driven devices/bearings outside the engine could have gone bad, so check them out.

    Kohler ZT 740 engine stuck!

    E.g., did you use compressed air, through a nozzle?

    Kohler ZT 740 engine stuck!

    Are you sure the oil level was correct before starting it the final time? {I check mine before each use.}

    How old is the battery?

    Starter will not turn engine sometimes

    Battery need replacing? Terminals clean and tight? Cables in great shape?

    Husqvarna with KT725 suddenly started surging/pulsing/cycling

    Classic sound of running out of gas. I'll guess fuel pump. If a vacuum pump, replace its lines as well.

    Ethanol only?

    So ... new piston{s} (and rings; or milled head{s}) would be needed. So far, seems do-able. Conversion kits already available?
