Now the mower will not crank!

OK, all this about what kind of gasket maker to use is more confusing to me than helpful. I pulled off the gasket cover and had no trouble removing the Permatex gasket material. That material was red (RTV?) that had been suggested by an MTD tech during a phone conversation that took a...

Now the mower will not crank!

Thank you for your advice. I can get the mower to crank and run. Sometimes it just is difficult to start and acts like what I see in other peoples YouTube videos on mowers that need the valve lash adjusted. That’s going to be my next effort.

Now the mower will not crank!

I ordered red RTV permagasket and new feeler gauges (old ones got rusted :( ). As soon as they come in I will check the lash. I saw a video that (if I remember right) showed, while rotating the engine slowly, where there is supposed to be tiny movement that you'd notice on the rocker arm that...

Now the mower will not crank!

I finally got the drive belt in place! Then I had to straighten a bent bracket and add two washers for a pulley to get lined up. Was able to get the motor running, I went for a drive and everything looks, feels and smells like it’s all good! NOW I’m back to the motor won’t start! Has my engine...

    New Craftsman thread for variations

Can we have a new forum for Craftsman mowers that are not pure Craftsman? I don't know how many variations there are. Maybe those made for Lowes? Are all Craftsman mowers made for Lowe's made by MTD? I have a HUGE problem finding videos or any help for my Lowe's Craftsman special made by MTD -...

T150 46 inch riding mower front end, steering loose

Hello, This is my first riding mower so I’m learning a lot. We started using this in 2019. I don’t have a nice flat lot. We have 3 1/2 acres out in the country. Probably the majority of what I cut is flat, but the steering is used a LOT! There are many areas with angles/ruts/slopes that test...

T150 46 inch riding mower front end loose steering problems

Hello, I suddenly noticed a tightness in a specific point while turning the steering wheel. I raised it up and found one wheel connector to ‘axle’ problem. This is my first riding mower so I’m learning all about it! Please let me know of any other front end parts that I might need to look at! I...

    gas powered riding mower battery

Hello, My Craftsman T150 46 inch riding mower uses a U1R battery. I'm guessing the only thing that battery does is crank the mower. I'm guessing the stator keeps the battery charged. I think I read these batteries are good for about 1000 cranks. We have 3 1/2 acres. The mower seat has switch...

    smoked the alternator on 33R887 0033 G1

Thank you for replying. I thought a wire going into the amp housing terminal had come loose because it was at a sharp right angle as the wire went into the housing. Turned out it was the end of the wire's coating that I was seeing! The wire was still tightly connected. As far as disassembling -...

Amazon carb for B&S engine, no threads, screw broke! It's a journey!!

It most likely was the solenoid. I was worried about that screw so I spent $25-30 for online replacement carb. Replaced fuel filter, drain tank, rinsed, dried, refilled. It's run fine till recent. Then I smoked the alternator! Now to fix that!

I emptied the gas tank, put in new filter, new carb - has been running fine! At least till I smoked the alternator! Now to get that fixed!
