    Troy-Bilt Pony 42", 2006 - Intermittent Miss/Power Loss When Mowing

It has a Briggs 17.5HP I/C Type 0777E2 from 2005. New spart plug, valves adjusted, carburetor cleaned and rebuilt with a kit, new fuel filter, manual fuel shutoff valve added, new battery and the reverse mowing shutoff has been bypassed/unplugged. When mowing it runs fine, then a sharp sputter...

54 inch riding mower just clicks, won't start

Just had same problem. Did the same thing, bought a solenoid that fixed nothing. Also jumped from battery to starter and got spark as you did. Battery terminals were clean BUT the positive cable attached to battery was rusted. Thoroughly cleaned cable end and bingo, it starts.

    Snapper LT125 Deck Too Low

The deck has 7 positions. The lowest sets the deck on the concrete. Levels 1 thru 5 are basically too low to cut grass unless you are cutting greens or a fairway. Level 6 is boarder line too low for the average lawn. The highest level is ok. If there is excessively high grass there is no room...

Two Briggs, Two Decades Apart, Same Intermittent No Crank

Sorry for the double post. Issue found with unit #2. It was a carburetor issue. I removed the spark plug and gasoline poured out of the cylinder. The motor was hydraulic locked. The carb was removed but the internals looked clean. No crud or varnish. Used brake cleaner to clean ports and...

Two Briggs, Two Decades Apart, Same Intermittent No Crank

Unit #1 Model 31A607 Type 0741-E1 Code 070326ZE I/C 15.5HP Unit #2 Model 287707 Type 1224-E1 Code 971009ZO I/C 14.5HP I do not believe either of these units have an ignition safety interlock issue since both solenoids always activate. Both units have had their batteries swapped...

Two Briggs, Different Decades, Same Intermittent No Crank at Start

1.Model 31A607 Type 0741 E1 Code 070326ZE 15.5hp 2.Model 287707 Type 1224 E1 Code 971009ZO 14.5hp Unit #1 is a salvage mower that I swapped this 15.5hp engine into. Battery is new. Worked well until no crank, just a solenoid click. Swapped in a used solenoid and it started OK for a couple...

    Open Positive? *Update*

I’m just an average DiYer but here is my two cents. If necessary charge battery just enough to start tractor then shut motor off. Use volt meter to check battery DC voltage with engine off. Then start tractor and recheck battery voltage at battery again. It should be higher now indicating...

    17.5 bends pushrods

A lot of very good advice has been given here. What causes over heating. Among other things, 1. Debris/mouse nests under engine shroud clogging cooling fins. Take the shroud off and inspect. 2. While there go a step further and inspect the flywheel key. Look close at it. If the flywheel has...

Craftsman Gear Shift Stuck After Stopping

OK I lied!! It warmed up a little today, so I made it out to the garage. I released the center brake adjustment nut and the mower shifted OK. I tightened the nut some and it still shifted OK but had no brakes. Kept tightening the nut to the point where I have a very little brake pressure and...

Craftsman Gear Shift Stuck After Stopping

Thank you to those that replied. Things are very hectic this time of year and I’m taking a break from the garage for now. I don’t know why but the brake was shimmed with washers on the adjustment nut and not working at all when I got it. The first thing I’m planning on doing is disengage the...

Craftsman Gear Shift Stuck After Stopping

Craftsman Tractor Model - 917.252510 - 42" Deck - 16HP Briggs Transmission Dana Transaxle Model - 4360.79 This thing is about 30 years old. The engine was blown when I received it (no oil), and previous owner has no history to help. It came with the house. Just completed an engine swap with...

    Briggs 800 175cc won’t start

Thank you for letting us know your conclusion. Too many ask for help but never return to add what solved their issue. Inquiring minds need to know what solved the mystery.

    D105 engine keeps dying

I know this is a late response, but my vote goes to the plugged vent hole in the gas cap. They run about 15 minutes with a plugged hole in the gas cap then the vacuum pressure increases greater that the fuel pump can handle starving the carburetor.

    Mower dies when engaging blades

Sounds like my Briggs V Twin problem. Tractor came to me not running. With new battery and wiring issues fixed it ran what I thought was ok but then, no power when PTO engaged, it died. Found mine was running on one cylinder. Getting spark. Getting fuel. Compression great. I had two...
