Looking at a Gravely Z44 Pro with 1700hrs, is that too many hours?

Yes, that would be ideal. This would be a backup mower, one that I'd probably use on my own lawn every 2 weeks or so, and very occasionally on a job when my main mower, a 2020 Proturn 152 that I just bought in July, might have to go in the shop. So I'm just looking for something that is...

Looking at a Gravely Z44 Pro with 1700hrs, is that too many hours?

Well, the dealer sold the 44Z. I talked with them and it turned out the engine was from another mower, so it was a used engine, but the original engine had been replaced. No idea how many hours were on the engine, and it probably wasn't a commercial engine either, so probably not worth getting...

Looking at a Gravely Z44 Pro with 1700hrs, is that too many hours?

Interesting, I found this video of what appears to be the same mower. It looks like it exactly, however this has a Kawasaki 17hp engine, which looks like the original engine from any info I could find online. So it appears the one I'm looking at had the original engine replaced with a Kohler...

Looking at a Gravely Z44 Pro with 1700hrs, is that too many hours?

Where did you find that info? Can you provide a link? Interestingly, I looked under the seat and I saw one drive pump under there (with the fan blades on top, right?), not two. It has the Kohler engine, maybe it was Kawi on some years or an option between the two? The dealer said they don't know...

Looking at a Gravely Z44 Pro with 1700hrs, is that too many hours?

Local dealer is selling a Gravely Pro Z44 with about 1700 hours on it, Kohler 20hp engine. Asking price is $2,000. It was used as residential mower, not pro use. Serviced by the dealer. Runs good, no known issues. I offered $1,500 and dealer said he just put it out for sale, but if it doesn't...

Looking at Pro-Turn Z, any issues with Gravely engine to know about?

I don't know if it's a great deal beefier. They are both commercial grade. I think the 152 might has a little thicker steel in the deck construction, but otherwise those are the same. It might have bigger tires? It does have an upgrade to the drive transaxles, so that's probably a bit more...

    Gravely 152 Pro

Are you running the throttle up to full speed before you engage the blade PTO? I was told to do so when I bought mine, and I notice when I engage the PTO, it does put a strain on the engine and it revs down quite a bit. I'm guessing if the throttle isn't fully open, it could strain the engine...

carburetor versus Electronic fuel injection, what is best?

I would expect you'll have a long time before that EFI gives you trouble, but as others have stated, be sure you don't use any old gas in it. As for the new TTII with the B&S carbed engines, that's very interesting. Seems like B&S isn't that highly regarded in this type of equipment, I'm...

Looking at Pro-Turn Z, any issues with Gravely engine to know about?

Thanks, I wound up buying a Pro-Turn 152 instead. I figured the extra cost was worth the beefier components, and it has the floating seat system. I tell you, that floating seat is nice, I can tell that it's making the ride more comfortable. That alone was worth the upgrade, although you can just...

Yes, Mike Rowe made a career of pointing that out!

Looking at Pro-Turn Z, any issues with Gravely engine to know about?

Thanks, all good things to keep in mind. I'm just looking to get started with a business now, and grow from there. As you say, there is no telling where that will go. I'm pretty sure what I'm starting with here is going to get me occupied with work pretty quickly, which is the plan. As that...

Looking at Pro-Turn Z, any issues with Gravely engine to know about?

Thanks for the input, and I certainly get what you are saying. I wound up ordering a new Pro-Turn 152 with the Kawasaki engine. The only other option in that line was the Kohler engine, either with or w/o EFI. The dealer mainly recommended staying away from EFI. I understand the idea of going...

Cub Cadet Owner Check-In --- Read This First!

I'm looking on the Cub Cadet forum here for help with my father-in-law's 2011 RZT 50" Cub Cadet. The belts, both drive and deck, tend to jump off. Already seen one thread that gave me the idea to use a video camera to watch & see what is happening with the pulleys.

    Gravely/Ariens Owner Check-In --- Read This First!

Just ordered a new Gravely Pro-Turn 152 ( 991129 with Kawasaki eng). Was looking at the Z 52, which dealer had in stock, but when I posted here about any issues with the Gravely engine, nobody commented, which I take to mean that engine isn't widely owned. I've seen plenty of good things about...

carburetor versus Electronic fuel injection, what is best?

I purchased a mower today (Gravely) and talked with the dealer about which version to order. The model I wanted had 3 versions, one with a Kawasaki, one with Kohler, and another with Kohler with EFI. The Kawasaki & Kohler/EFI were the same price. She said the only one of the 3 they don't...
