My Craftsman 17 hp Kohler riding mower quit charging the battery. I replaced the battery because it was old, but I still only get 12.6 volts at the new battery when the engine is running or when it is turned off. Can someone please tell me how to test the charging system? Thanks

I know nothing about a hydrostatic transmission in a mower, but have always wanted one. Please give me some advice on them, such as dependability, can they be serviced, repairs, etc. If I were buying I'd have to go with a Craftsman or similar probably. Thanks for your help...
