Check valve settings

Top ring has inside bevel, 2nd one sometimes square or stepped on outside faces down.

Check the valve gap also.

When one valve is closed (down) then set the up one to .005. Repeat for the other. Never had a problem. Also you mentioned alot of oil under valve cover could mean overfilled.

My thoughts also flywheel must be pulled.

Blades should be turning in the same direction not opposite. Worn blade wings or too short of blades will also cause this. High lift blades can help or weld your own extra high wings on .
