Thanks for the info. For my own edification, by ignition, do you mean the coil is what determines the RPMs? I will make sure it is a steel shaft.

I recently acquired an HL100 that has a weed trimmer head on it. Seems to run just fine as a weed trimmer but my understanding is this model number is a long reach hedge trimmer. Is it ok and or safe to use this as a weed trimmer? If so, what about using it with the grass cutting blade?

Thanks for the advice guys. Time to start restoring these trimmers. I hear only good things about Stihl equipment. Are these things worth $100 used if in good working condition? I'm sure I'll only keep one of these and sell the rest.
