I have had good luck with the John Deere mower. I have a x300 since 2008 that still runs great and a lx176 still running great. All have kaw engines.

You might want to put a fuel shut off in the fuel line after you fix the carb.

You must have a power draw check the electric blade clutch or anything that might stay warm.

Sounds like a dirty carb remove the carb bowl and clean the fuel jet. Check the air filter.

Check the spark igniter ignition module it's a little square chip that fires the coil. This is on a john deere kaw engine next to the starter. Then check Amazon they are a lot cheaper then john deere.

I had two Grasshoppers both with 54 inch decks and with kohler 20 hp and B&S18 hp engines i liked them both. I would recommend 25 hp.

If you go with the john deere stay away from the mulch deck my x300 deck would throw it's belt for no reason finally changed to a standard 42 inch deck now all is ok.

If it was me I would change the spark plug run seafoam in the gas and pour some down the carb and let it set on the valves for a while they may be all carboned up.

sounds like a fuel problem check the vent in gas cap and vacuum line to the fuel pump.Also check the shutoff solnoid on the carb and if it has a good wire connection.

If it's a mulching deck the darn things throw belts I had one on my x300 sold it and found a standard deck on craigslist.

Vacuum line to the fuel pump from engine could be broke.Also make sure fuel tank is vented and you installed the filter in the right direction.
