So, the starter gear arrived... It took a bit of work to get the pin out of the shaft but I was finally able to. I attached the starter to the chassis, turned the key, and then nothing. It seems there is some kind of short, because when I turn the key half way, the lights to the dash came on...

Update: Took off the engine cover and saw straight away that the starter gear was grinded down to nothing. Ordered another one and it arrives Friday. Thanks a lot ILENGINE! You taking the time to respond saved me a lot of headache! Appreciate it!
