    Compression Tester

Only been repairing small engines for 60 years or so, and there's still plenty to learn, but my go to compression tester is the rubber tip type. Used it 100s of times and has never let me down. This old guy sees it this way.... Pressure measured in psi is what this is about. Two or four cycle...

Scag mower suddenly will only run at 40% throttle and 60% choke

Seem most likely a fuel issue. Despite the one new carb, I would try another in a different brand. Over nearly 60 years of repairing small engines, a new or skillfully cleaned carb is my go to solution for engines that only run on choke. Don't be afraid of $25 carbs on Amazon. Many folks...

Frustrated with a Cub LT 1018 No Start problem

She said she tried starting fluid in the breather. Before ruling that out, id try a short squirt thru the spark plug hole. If it doesn't pop, your problem is probably electrical. That can be any of the clutch, seat or other safety switches, any wiring or even the key switch. It could include...

Interior House Paint Costs Any Lawn or Garden Pros Have Insights?

Unless you are in an economically depressed area you won't find a good painter with materisls at $1.50 per sf. Post covid, and depending on your area, and the quality of the painter, about $2.50 - $3.50 per sf of room area measured on the floor, is going to be more like it. Be careful...

Not a Mower, But a Tool of the Trade

I have swapped lots of nozzles from pump sprayers to small electric units. Often you can even swap hoses and wands or adapt them. Northern tool has some nozzels that are high flow and spray 12 ft wide. Southern States, farm supply, and pressure washer repair places may have choices too.

    5-6 hp Honda Gcv160 Horizontal

Here's what AI suggests... Of course! A backfire through the carburetor on a Honda GCV160 is a classic and frustrating problem. It's a distinct "pop" or "bang" from the air intake area, not the muffler. This symptom almost always points to one of two main issues: a lean fuel mixture or a valve...

    5-6 hp Honda Gcv160 Horizontal

Been a great motor. Drained tank end of last season. This season it starts fine but wants to backfire some through carb and blew air filter off. Runs well without air cleaner. Suggestions.

    Kohler CH22 starving for gas

Some on this forum will disagree, but if Op doesn't want to pay for an oem carb, he can always try amazon and ebay for about $15. If it works, then bingo, if it doesn't you have lost little. I know Chinesium carbs are controversial on this site, but 20 out of the last 20 I tried worked fine...

    Kohler CH22 starving for gas

Since you've spent countless hours on this and replaced or checked numerous parts without success, I'd try a new carb. That is assuming you tried a new temp aux tank and did replace all 3 fuel lines.

    Changed my mind

Sounds like someone unfortunately bought a defective store return Honda. My experience is the Honda 160s and 190s are very long lasting. Interested in the experience of the old pros. Im just 74 :)

    Changed my mind

I've had excellent experience with with the Honda 21 HRN or HRX two bladed mowers. For the money they are hard to beat and reliability is high in my experience.
