    magneto ignition??? ever heard of a ignition system that's is fired by the ignition control module? power to the coil from ignition and the ignition control module grounds the coil to fire at the proper time

    sounds like you have a really lean condition, you need more fuel to go inside the engine,carb has to be able to be adjusted for that, if there is no mixture screw,you may have a defective carb

    you may have bent the spindle shaft. remove mower belts and turn by hand to see if spindle shaft is bent

    hook a volt meter or test light to the + & - of the coil not firing, run engine or just crank over,does it have a reading? if not,turn key on & check the + terminal on the coil to see if it has voltage

    when you do locate the regulator, I would unplug it and hook you meter leads to the 2 wire going to the stator and put meter on AC volts, hold engine to about half throttle,it should read voltage,tell us how much voltage and we can go from there

    I would check for 12 volts at the coil with ignition on, if you have it,then test for ground on the other terminal of the coil when cranking engine over then we can go from there
