We took the bowl off, sprayed carb clearner from top and bottom, flicked the float a few times, put it back together and changed oil twice and everything seems fine now. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

Is there any way the fuel pump could be causing our problem? It is mounted on the side with of engine with actuation lever in oil pan.

I’ve replaced the two be,ts with John Deere belts. When I went to adjust them the spring was completely loose, nut was tight and I’m at a loss what to do except put washers behind spring so it will tighten up enough to allow it to give the belts the correct 3/4” slack. Any thoughts?
