Wet or long, what's worse?

We had heavy rain for 3 days in a row, my lawn at this point is 6 days uncut. There is a minor break in the weather. A couple of hours of sunshine with storm clouds rushing in. I decided to wait until the weather broke for longer thinking that mowing drier longer grass would be better than knocking a half an inch off wet grass. Looks like it will be nice and dry on the weekend to mow and probably only 3/4" to maybe 1" over the 2 3/4" I cut it at.

Thoughts?

I would prefer longer dry grass. I never mow wet grass.

I would rather mow longer as opposed to wet grass, wet grass makes a mess. You can always raise the blade and cut, then lower it to its normal position and re-mow. :thumbsup:

My thoughts exactly but I was just looking to the experienced. I went from an anemic craftsman to a quite competent Toro that could handle the wet grass but in the interest of making the mower last a couple of decades and the lawn looking pristene I err on the side of caution.

I have to agree to mow it long as opposed to wet. The wet gets so thick and sometimes will kill the lawn mower because it get clogged.

In the Pacific Northwest at this time of the year you get both: Tall and wet grass. If you wait 'till the rain stops for a few hours, you can get some of it cut but it will be wet. If you wait for the summer to mow, you will be into mid-July.
Best approach in this area: Mow whenever you can.

I would rather mow wet grass because when it is long it holds in the moisture. Just my opinion.

Early morning when the dew is heavy as possible. Cooler on me, cooler on the engine, cooler on the transmission and no dust. With a constant fog of moisture vapor exiting the discharge there is very little cleaning to remain and the wash port finishes that job very well. If it wasn't for lightning I'd mow in the rain.

You guys must have a different kind of grass than we do around here. If I mow in the wet, whether it's early in the morning or during a storm, the grass will clog up the deck. It doesn't matter what kind of mower you're using either.

Yeah, it's like saying you like to paint your house in the rain because it's cooler.
