Model 130292 will not run unless fully choked

My 1998 ish tiller will not run unless fully choked and some gas goes down the throat!
I had the carby cleaned and replaced the gasket on the side of the barrel, needle adjustment makes NO difference ---- :( has anyone got a cure for me, please?? Best wishes Mike!

I assume this is a Briggs & stratton engine?

As you have just had the carburettor rebuilt , it is likly that the build and or the refitting to the engine, have resulted in the air-fuel mixture being too lean. Most often this is the result an air leak or blocked jet.
The B&S numbers you supplied indicate a fuel tank mounted carburettor - there are a number of areas where incorrect part fitting or a missing component, could result in an air:fuel mixture problem,.

Thank you Skippydiesel, the jet is clear, tried 6 settings from go to nearly falling out!
I have to put my thumb over the intake to seal it before it'll start then it runs like crazy! BUT Remove the thumb and it dies! It is the strangest fault I've ever come across!I guess I'll have to get a new set of gaskets and some sealant :)
 
How does the tank and the fuel cup look? These metal tanks are bad about rusting and the fuel cup tends to develop pin holes. Also how the pickup filter screen looks? is it clogging with trash?

Bad News if the tank is rusted out as it has been unavailable for quite a few year now. When those tank went over $100 the consumer quit buying them and then Briggs stopped making them.
 
AND the tank caps are probably worn out leaking fuel all over your garden veggies.

Agree with the others. Carb is internally clogged. Dead fuel pump and internal passages on the jet not flowing. Definitely wants more fuel to run.

I put fine gravel and sand in the tank-- vibrated it and then put compressed air in the really get the tank cleaned out -- it's got a dull shine in there now!

Have epoxied a tank before now, works well, epoxy then a layer of paper and a little more epoxy. I didn't have access to solder at that place :)
 
This doesn’t look good. I had the same issue on my Troy Bilt Pony Tiller from 1985.
I found a Honda GC160 engine for $30.
I went ahead and ordered a new pulley to fit the 3/4” shaft. I didn’t want fight to remove a pulley that had been on a shaft for 41 years. Cost $12
The Honda bolted up perfectly and had a plastic fuel tank. Starts on 2nd pull with choke the plenty of power to till my 93 year old Dad’s gardens.

Only negative is I lost the reverse on the tiller because there is not a second shaft on the GC160. I’ll live.
