Edger runs, then dies.

People,

Craftsman Edger, B&S engine, Model # mostly worn away, 122(??)K50834. Mower starts, I run it to edge for say, 2 minutes, then it dies. I start it again but with starter fluid, it runs for 1-2 minutes, again, it dies. Dropped the fuel tank and noticed the fine screen mesh attached to the bottom of the pick up tube (darkened orangeish/brown plastic tube in photo) has a tiny hole in the center of it. Difficult to have taken a photo as the angle is awful. But at least you can see he tube.

Any idea why my edger quits like that?

Does it look something like this engine? If so there should be a model, type and code numbers on the shroud by the spark plug.

Looking at your carb, this is what I would be doing.
1. Remove carb and give it a good cleaning.
2. Purchase 2 carb to engine gaskets, part number 27355. Yes, it calls for doubling up on those gaskets.
3. Purchase a new carb to tank gasket, part number 27404.
4. Throughly clean the entire gas tank, inside and outside.
5. Check the top of the tank, making sure it is flat where the carb mounts. If it is not flat, you may have to double up on the tank gasket.
6. Reassemble carb and tank.
7. Attach assembly to block.
8. Adjust fuel needle according to instructions in manual. See attached.
9. Test and adjust carb according to manual.

Good tips, Riv. But what about the strainer at the bottom of the p/u tube I mentioned? Even with all the resto I would do that hole is still there. Unless that hole is normal(???)

Rivets knows the Pulsajet carb and its issues. Do what he said. If you still have issues after cleaning and rebuilding the carb, consider testing for spark after it runs and dies. A failing coil often works when cold and then fails when it gets hot.

I'd run over to O'Reillys, Napa, Autozone, or maybe your local larger lawn mower shop and buy a new (Probably NGK or Champion RJ19LM) spark plug for that model. Genuine NGK plugs typically have had blue lettering for sometime. The counterfeits have dark gray lettering. Yours has dark gray. You may have a defective spark plug. Do not buy one online.
