Cub 5252 fuel trouble...

Looking for some info on my 5252 Cub . Has an electric fuel pump, it seems to run continuesly and floods the engine. Shouldn't the floats close the needle to seat and stop the pump?
 
Provide the product label information off of the chassis and the engine information label. Otherwise, we are guessing.

In this day and age, no two mowers are built the same for any reliable amount of time.

I don't recall these coming with an electric fuel pump. Was that a hardware store add-on? Electric pumps generally put out too much volume and pressure for a small engine.
 
It appears to be a factory installed pump. It's plugged directly into the wiring harness. And there's no sign of a pulse type pump on the Kohler engine.

In this situation I recommend you pull the carburetor off and remove the fuel bowl, then the float. Inspect the tip of the needle for damage. There is also a chance that some debris got into the fuel inlet and got stuck in the seat. Make sure the float is not full of fuel, if it is, it needs to be replaced.

This is likely a (passive) electric diaphragm type pump, and the internal diaphragm is coming apart. This pump normally functions all the time with key on power. The float and needle are what controls the flow inside the carburetor.
 
Thanks Auto Doc, I will order a carb rebuild kit and take it apart and check the needle and seat.

Hello MParr,

Many of these has a rocker arm actuated fuel pump or a pump on the side of the block down low. I have not seen any modern Kohler/Rehlko horizontal engines that are gravity feed, but I see new things all the time.

This machine apparently has an electric fuel pump mounted on the chassis near the engine.
 
Thanks Rivets for the info, and yes in the MTD manual you posted page 91, figure 3.3 there is a picture of the exact fuel pump I have in my 5252 Cub.
 
Does anyone have any suggestions on where you can get a quality carb rebuild kit for my CH730 Kohler. Amazon has a million of them, but are they any good?
