Kawasaki vs Kohler

  • The current Kohler Confidant ZT720/ZT740 series (post-2021) has been better than the Courage line ever was. Real upgrade.
I don't want to derail this, but do you know anything about the earlier Confidants? I have a 2016 EZT750. It has some of the features you tout for the Kawasaki... dual element air filter, aluminum block with cast-iron sleeves. I don't know about bearings and tolerances, though. I've had some problems with it, but I think it's due to neglect by previous owner(s).

It's basically a budget Rehlko/Kohler Command Pro engine. It doesn't have the hydraulic lifters. The air filtration is different. It doesn't have the Donaldson style air filter. It has a cyclonic type air box with a cylinder shaped filter with wire mesh surrounding it. It has a green foam pre-filter that goes over the cylinder filter. The pre-filter must be cleaned and oiled every 25 hours. Both the filter and pre-filter must be changed every 100 hours.
