I have a 1991 EFI 26 hp walker that has stopped pressurising the fuel system at start. Runs fine once it starts. Trying to figure out what controls the fuel pump to pressure the system at start up. Thanks in advance

Hello J.,

We need the product label information off the machine along with the engine product label information.

Problems like this are what make the Technical Service Manual worth the investment. Everything else is just guessing and people spit balling armchair theory and telling "once upon a time stories''

Try turning the ignition on and off. Some you have to cycle the ign on and off and some the pump runs until it builds pressure.

Had a similar headache with an old mower of mine. I'd bet it's your fuel pump relay. That's the little switch that tells the pump to run for a couple of seconds when you turn the key. It's probably just worn out from age. Easy way to check is to find the relay (usually in the fuse box), and when you turn the key to the 'ON' position (don't start it), you should feel or hear a little 'click' from it. If it's silent, that's likely your problem. You could also check the fuel pump fuse while you're in there.
Just an idea. Let us know what you find with more photos. Gook luck!

Thank you all for the replies, Auto Doc’s I will look this weekend and see if I can get information off the engine as well as the machine.

hlw49 I did try to cycle the switch hoping that would help, still not getting the system to prime.

Fix it frank I reached out to walker and got a wiring diagram. I’m going to look at wiring and fuel pump relay hopefully this weekend.

Again thanks for the help.

Never Know which one you have until you try to cycle it. Does your mower have a MIL light on it so you can read the Mal function codes on it?

Why does OPs fight so hard not to provide the info we request so we can help? We are NOT MIND READERS...It like the equipment is stolen or it is government top secret info.

Independent shops needs this info to look up things and most of your help will come from us independent shops.

Hi StarTech,

Maybe AI will be introduced on this site like so many others. Then the OPs can read a laundry list of wild (A) guesses based on an algorithm instead of working knowledge.

Face it, we are in a time where regurgitated garbage and misinformation are considered fact.

I all already figured that most will believe outright lies. Just look how messed up our politics are nowadays. Let's face it major Morons are ruling the world now.

And if AI comes to this site I am out as I not taking advice from an idiot moron computer. YouTube is bad enough they don't need an AI sticking routines in there too. There are very few intelligent YouTude sites. We already have people that can't find their way to the grocery store without a smart phone telling them how get there even though they have hundreds times already. I was in Walmart last Sunday and nearly everyone was either the phone or using it check prices blocking the isles.

And yes Google, DuckDuck, Bing, and other search engines are installing AI which I completely avoid as I prefer to do my own homework. Even when it pops up I just ignore it. I am beginning to see outrageous guesses on Amazon too when I search for options of particular item.

Mentioning homework even kids in schools are using it to do homework instead their brains. Even our courts are now seeing AI generated evidence so someone can have you put in jail for something you never done all because of AI because say it was so.

I would not be surprised that some are needing AI to tell how wipe their butts.

Sorry for ranting but I had say something...

It's like when you answer a post and they never post back to thank you for your help. You know what you posted was correct. I'm not going to answer that I don't want them to know I was that stupid that I didn't know that.
