It is possible the OP put the belt on the wrong side of the idler pulley and now instead loosening the belt as he/she clutches they tighten it.
Maybe I did put it on the wrong side... Hopefully I'll get to it tomorrow and take a picture of it. It's such a simple belt layout, I don't see how I could screw that up. Maybe I had one too many when I did it, lol

Easily done
I can confess to doing it a few times myself
The trick is to get under and watch which way the tension pulley moves when you put your foot on the clutch / brake pedal
The pulley has to take pressure off the belt when the brake pedal is down

I took a shot at it again today and I'm really not seeing what I did wrong. The belt is not overly tight, it has some slack and everything else looks right to me, I mean all I did was take the old belt off and put a new one on, so this is definitely baffling me. I did forget to pull on both sides of the belt and start it, but I didn't have an extra set of hands though.

Okay is the side frames in following image label correctly? IF so you have the belt routed incorrectly because the belt is on the idler incorrectly. And this would explain the brake/clutch pedal depressing problem.

remove belt
loosen pulley
depress bake & lock pedal in park position
Run the other ( RH side ) of the belt through the pulley
The back of the belt runs against the pulley and the root of the belt goes towards the belt keeper tab

Hey guys, finally got a chance to reroute the belt, and just wanted to show you guys before I put the deck back. It's definitely a little trickier than how easy it looks in the manual. Thanks
