So I took a chance on a Jonesered air filter from ebay. None the less, they were cheap and comes in a pack of 3. I installed it, and the snap went on like it's supposed to, but I checked it out a little closer and found it didn't quite fit the grommet. I unsnapped it, and found at least 10thousandths air gap between it and the rubber it's supposed to fit into.
I paid $22 for 2 packs (6 total). So I sent the selling a message along with pics of my calipers measuring the difference.

Here's the funny part. He replies, with "my two options." Keep them and I'll refund you $8. Or he's send me a return shipping label..

So I replied:

$8? Is this a joke? I paid $22 for this.
I'll give you two options,
Refund the $22 and I'll toss these in the trash, as they are obvious knocks off and don't fit anything. So they'll won't be cluttering up the shop.

2. Send me the shipping labels so I can send them back. Then you can pawn them off on some knucklehead, who doesn't know any better and is going to destroy his cylinder from the air gap that these filters create.

I'm wondering if this is an actual sawhouse or just a retailer for 2 cycle parts? Maybe you got a good deal on them, and just haven't checked to see how they don't fit.
My apologies for being snide, but I almost let this saw go back to my customer. I do good work for my customers. Sometimes I do use aftermarket parts. But they have to be up to snuff. And parts like this has a way of giving shops a bad name.

The nerve of some of these sellers. I'm not going to give someone $14 to send me parts that don't fit.

Sometimes saving money is not saving money. Buy and install real deal OEM and sleep at night. If I had a shop it would only have OEM parts.

I got burned a few years on some CC spindles. They supposedly OEM but identical the Rotary that were bad here. Returned them and got slapped with a 30% restocking fee on Defective parts. That vendor has never gotten another order from me. I even filed a complaint with Amazon which got no where. I end paying for the return shipping so ended up paying the parts.

Ouch. On Amazon or Ebay, I have my preferred sellers, that have never given me an ounce of trouble. If there was an issue, there was almost no questions asked. But I tried a new one and he got put on the don't buy from list. I'll give him a few days to make things right. If not, I'll take it to ebay, and let them sort it out. Then give him a bad review. I've already given the product a bad review.

Luckily it was only $22.

I only buy from Alibaba , Made in China or Made in India.
All 3 of these hold my money till I tell them the parts arrived in good condition and were as described
If I don't OK them then they send me the money back & the vendor does not get paid or if I say nothing they pay the vendor 45 days after delivery date
Thus there is no incentive for vendors to sell defective parts
IT takes a while to get parts from them but no where near as much wasted time as fitting parts that don't fit or don't work then having to get more from some where else & do the whole job again.

If all you install is OEM parts, you will have some customers complaining about high prices. A larger dealership that repairs John Deere (for example) can seek OEM high dollar parts, the customers are expecting this. A small shop is trying to keep service and quality consistent, while keeping costs fair and reasonable. I had had really good results with aftermarket parts in general. I don’t even send back small parts that don’t work that I paid say$22 bucks for. It isn’t worth the time or trouble. Make a note of it, and move on.

But if you bought it from a site that has feedback make sure you leave negative feed back before you move on to help deter others .
Don't be abusive so in this case "defective part does not seal around carb so leaks " is all that is needed , perhaps an "Avoid this vendor" but limit it to that .
I left so much negative feedback that ebay itself wanted a "please explain"
So I told them in detail what was wrong with every defective item
Their reply is what turned me off ebay for good
"Did you ask for refund or replacement "
MY reply was " what so they can sell more defective parts to others who might not complain"
Ebay "That is not a fair attitude this vendor has sold zxcvb items with less than 5% negative feedback "
Me "So they are still selling defective parts and only 5% of those who bought them could be bothered to report it.
Ebay then suspended that account ( I had multiple ones )
One vendor even offered to pay me to remove my negative feedback as it would damage their future sales .
Not quite how feed back is supposed to work .
As far as Evilpay is concerned so long as the vendor replaced or refunded then all is well & I should rescind the negative feed back
