Have you tested the solenoid off the engine yet, is it working..?

Is the solenoid tested with a volt meter, or an ohm meter? if so what should the readings be?

No it appears to be a Vanguard, and his engine has jets incorporated with his solenoid, and the replacement is $85 or so.

So we need to verify that this part is his problem.....

Just to know if the solenoid works or not, put the solenoid back on the carb, and set it up to run again. Run a wire from the solenoid to the positive battery terminal, and try to start.

And you should be able to hear and or feel it click when you put power to it.

I agree with fish find out if it is working before doing anything else.

I have done this. The only way it runs is if I feed gas through the carb. Do not hear or feel a click when hooked up. Will have to look at replacing and try that.
