    What's in your bucket??

OK, I've got a 5 gallon bucket with a swivel padded seat on the top and pockets that run around the outside as well as inside the bucket. It's what I grab when one of my mowers/weedwhackers/chainsaws/etc give me problems starting or running.. My question is: What's in your bucket?? Or tool...

Paing for a small engine repair course

I'm a disabled vet and the VA approves and pays for training and I was wondering if anyone knew of a program that accepts that kind of payment?? I'm looking for a small engine repair course, preferably correspondence type like Foley Belsaw used to offer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Would anyone happen to have the old Foley Belsaw Courseware?

I'm looking to get back into repairing small engines (Mainly Chainsaws, leaf blowers, weed eaters, that kind of thing) and while I know how to do most easily accomplished repairs, I'd like to get deeper into the mowers and motors themselves. Foley Belsaw is in the process now of re-writing and...

What's the best barter you've made on small engines?

I'll start this one off. I had a guy call me and tell me he had a Troy-Bilt Weedeater that he and his brother tried to fix (Words that make me laugh, kind of like "It ran great 4 years ago, the last time we used it"). Anyway, this guy said "Just come get it, it's yours." I go to his house and...

So I was workin in my shop the other day...

Had a Stihl 048 Chainsaw on my bench I was working on. Had a bad gas leak. The wife and I had just come back from Costco (The big warehouse stores where you can buy a 40 pack of toilet paper, half a cow, etc.) and we LOVE the hotdog and drink deal for $1.50. I'd finished my hot dog and took...

How about a small engine repair discussion part?

I know this is the Lawnmower forum but, most people that use lawnmowers also use other items for yard maintenance as well. Maybe a small engine mechanics forum with topics related to how we made something work, or what troubleshooting we've done, that kind of thing. Just a thought... Back...

What three books would you buy for small engine repair?

OK, strange question but, I've got a $60 gift card from Amazon and I was thinking I'd like to have some updated small engine repair manuals to keep in my mobile repair van. I've got some pretty old manuals and that's great but, they don't cover the newer (last 10-15 years) of small engines. If...

    Ideas for recoil spring rewinder

I just spent about 3 hours last night trying to get a recoil spring wound and placed in a Toro Leaf Blower. I've been trying to keep it tight by using vice grips, needle nose pliers, even made a jig out of a block of wood and some plastic pegs. I'm looking for pictures of ideas you've put...

Has anyone had any luck with Ryobi Weed Eaters??

I've got seven of them right outside my shop right now that are about ready to head for the scrap yard. I've spent way too much time changing gas lines, filters, cleaning the gunk off them and tearing down and cleaning the carbs and they just won't run. Is there something with the diaprahms in...

Ideas for stocking my Mobile Small Engine Rescue Van

OK,so I've been pondering the idea of using my 96 Grumman (Chevy Chassis) step van (12' box area in back) for my mobile small engine rescue mobile van and I've got the whole right side of the van that has custom made wood shelving cubby holes that are about 15" wide, 9" tall, and maybe 15-18...

What are those little fitting on fuel lines called where the line goes into the tank?

Take a weed eater for example. Hose comes off the primer bulb, to a little male fitting, then there's a small square piece, then another make fitting. The square piece is what makes a half decent seal where the fuel line is going into the gas tank.. What the heck are those things called and...

Is anyone running a mobile small business?

I've got a '95 Grumman step van on a Chevy chassis, 1 ton but, it's only 12' long in the 'work' area. Right now it's got a ton of shelves on both sides, wooden, all built in. I'm thinking about taking the shelves on one side and making it into a bench with maybe keep the shelves under the...

    Has anyone dealt with Lawnmowerman.com?

I've emailed and called (left message) and no response. I was looking at buying his 5 DVD's and the books and catalogs he sells but wanted a deal for just those items.. I don't want any of the tools he offers in the packages. It's been at least a week with no responses. Kind of makes one a...

Older MTD 3hp edger carb puzzle..

OK, so a guy called me and told me he had an MTD 3hp edger that he wanted me to pick up for free. He wasn't at the house but left it out front. There was a bag tied to the handlebars. Inside were all the little connection parts for the outside of the carb.. The model number on the Edger...

What's the neatest tool you've found?

I'm new to trying my hand at small engine repair and I'm always lookin for multi-purpose tools. I stopped at a hardware store that had the Arnold Multi-Tool the previous visit I was there but, they were all gone and they said they're not available any longer. So, I picked up an Oregon Top Saw...
