    Age old question, Winter Storage?

Agreed and I only use non ethanol gas in all of my small engines. We can thank our government for the useless benefit of adding corn to our fossil fuel!

    Gas can nozzle gasket!

Justrite & Eagle metal cans are made by the same manufacturer in the same factory and I believe they are the best and safest way to store fuel. If I hadn’t decided to wash out my poly can, I would never had know the top seam had failed so I’m really not wanting to own poly can but can’t fault...

    Gas can nozzle gasket!

I bought a new lid with a gasket for my poly 5 gallon gas can and decided to clean out the inside of the container since there appeared to be some minor debris/deposits. I partially filled it with warm soapy water and shook it up well and while it was upside down, I could see water seeping out...

    Is that a concern?

    Gas can nozzle gasket!

I need to keep some gas throughout the winter so perhaps I should keep a metal can filled while keeping my two poly cans empty. The poly containers will still expand & contract even when empty?

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

Guess there are several tried techniques that work and I’ve read that even letting it run out of fuel can eventually leave some residue that bill build up, in the carb. Others say this technique causes the fuel hose to dry out, so perhaps there are several different ways to ensure a good spring...

    Gas can nozzle gasket!

I’ve noticed that my poly can’s flexible nozzle leaks where it’s attached to the can and after a closer look, I noticed the rubber gasket was all cracked into small pieces, some of which were missing. Now I can only assume that some are in the container so I’m going to pour all the gas out of...

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

Yeah, there are people like that and perhaps money is meaningless to them, but then, why would they be doing these landscaping chores themselves? Unfortunately the US has an over abundance of lazy and stupid people.

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

Great information and it really makes a whole lot of sense and explained well, thank you! Every gas can I fill, I add STA-BIL that day so I don’t have to think about if the gas has been stabilize. I also put a piece of blue tape on each can with the date of when the gas was purchase. I’m...

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

I do have a good metal 5 gallon gas can with the spring loaded lid and always fill it with non ethanol gas and do add sta-bil to all my stored gas for the mowers & generator. I’m guessing that should be good for about 6 months? Beyond that, I dump it into one of our cars.

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

And it’s okay to run premium fuel through small one & two cylinder engines?

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

I just read up on a detailed comparison of Star Tron vs Stabil and the conclusion is that both products are virtually similar even the shelf life once the bottles have been opened. I dare say either product, probably including Seafoam, will probably suffice and do what they are designed to...

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

True, but it’s all politics, our politicians know better, how to spend more than they take it, give financial aid to our adversaries, push electric cars and green energy while buying fuel from other countries even though we have tremendous resources here… need I say more?
  20. R

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

Agreed, however fuel without ethanol (corn) is more efficient and produces better results than what the government has mandated and as long as I can easily obtain it, it’s my preferred fuel.
  21. R

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

The craziness to ban ethanol fuels are those who have no ability to read and learn, however that and those people are why this country has been heading downhill at an ever increasing rate!
  22. R

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

Yes and I always use ethanol free fuel only!
  23. R

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

My neighbor, who does small engine repairs on the side, put fresh fuel (always ethanol free ) with Stabil in his lawn tractor before winter storage and runs the tractor around his yard to distribute the fuel and that’s it, he has never had a problem with start up in the spring. That seems like...

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

So Seafoam is a stabilizer or essentially does the same thing as Stabil?
  25. R

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

So the consensus is to use fresh non ethanol fuel with stabilized and the engine should be fine sitting for 4 months?

    Fuel shut off location?

Wanting to cut in a shut off valve on my Cub Cadet lawn tractor and wondering if the best location would be to install the valve where the fuel filter is in the photo and move the fuel filter to the left of the hose clamp that anchored to the block? Thanks
  27. R

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

So just closing the valve and running it dry is best? I wanted a fuel valve but not confident to cut one in, concerned with having a leak!
  28. R

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

I only use ethanol free gasoline and I always add stabilizer. Last year I left the lawn tractor with an almost full fuel tank and it started right up in the spring but not sure if that’s the best thing to do?

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

Not sure what the proper name is, however it works as a trickle charger, maintains the current in the battery while it is not in use.

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

Live in SW Virginia with a 4 month moderately cold winter and I keep my Cub Cadet 42 tractor in a shed with a push Honda mower. The tractor battery stays in tact but I do keep it connected to a battery tender. Is it better to complete run the engines dry of fuel (with an empty tank) or, as I...

    Mulching blades?

Okay, so claim it works well for both, I guess I’m better off just removing the plug and re-installing the side discharge flap then.
  32. R

    Mulching blades?

These are the blades that are listed as Gator Mulching Blades.

    Mulching blades?

    Mulching blades?

I‘ve been using mulching blades on my Cub Cadel 42 inch along with the discharge plug and it always leaves lines of cut grass if cutting the lawn when it’s even slightly high. Im wondering if the mulching blades with a side discharge would give better results, had anyone done this before? I do...

    Engine oil mishap!

For some reason it seems as though the oil filter on my lawn tractor gradually loosened up with use and I now have oil & debris covering the lower part of the engine and heavily covering the front frame below the filter & oil drain tube. Im thinking I should spray on some degreaser and either...

Cub Cadet XT2 with Kohler V Twin engine question?

Apparently my surging engine problem has been resolved and it was not due to bad fuel or a carburetor issue. After doing a bunch of reading on line, I discovered that various small engine fuel filters are not all the same micron size which allow slight different amounts of fuel to pass through...

Cub Cadet XT2 with Kohler V Twin engine question?

I guess it could be that, however the tractor is 5 years old and this just started recently, that’s why I thought it might be a fuel issue.

Cub Cadet XT2 with Kohler V Twin engine question?

I do use non ethanol gas along with stabilizer always, in all of my equipment. Perhaps there some water in the fuel from moisture since the mower is stored in an unheated shed?
  40. R

Cub Cadet XT2 with Kohler V Twin engine question?

Yes, I realize that and it’s part of the reason why I decided on a Cub Cadet, however an extended warranty won’t cover the price of a mechanic to come to my house and resolve a fuel issue or have the tractor hauled to the shop.
  41. R

Cub Cadet XT2 with Kohler V Twin engine question?

I’m wondering if there’s an easy way to drain gas from the carburetor since the engine has been surging at low rpm’s so I’m guessing it’s a fuel related issue?

    Gas shut off valve recommendation?

looking to install a gas shut off valve on a Koehler Twin engine and it appears as many of the ones on Amazon have bad review. Are there better ones out there or just the ones that are sold on Amazon?

    Fuel issue?

I cut the grass today for probably the 3rd time this spring and when finishing up and turning off the blades and lowering the throttle, the engine sounded choked out and sputtered at the lowered rpm’s? If this continue, what’s my next move, completely drain the fuel tank and change the fuel...

    Battery question!

Agreed, there is definitely a range in quality along with the cost! The Battery Store wants $59 for my tractor battery, the came price as my local Cub Cadet dealer.
  45. R

    Battery question!

I agree with both of your comments; I had a Walmart battery installed on my Honda Element once and it died at least two years sooner than an Interstate battery when the car was in a colder climate. Don’t think that involved any luck!

    Battery question!

In this case, I’d rather avert the no start issue when I’m ready to cut grass😎

    Battery question!

I’m going to buy one at the local CC dealer for $54and they take my waste oil as well. I do realize it’s more expensive than a local big box store or tractor supply.

    Battery question!

After a closer look, it seems as though the jumper clamps will fit under the seat when down and when sitting on it if that is needed to start the tractor. Now the question is, should I just replace the battery since it was manufactured in 2018 and just be guaranteed I’ll get another 5 plus...
