Yesterday my craftsman mower just died while I was driving slowly around the yard. It has a kohler cv14s 14hp engine.
I have since put in a new
spark plug, air filter, fuel filter and changed the oil

I tested the spark plug and it sparked.
I tested the fuel carburetor solenoid and it depresses when I turn the key.
I have fuel up to carburetor bowl.
It won't start when I spray in starter fluid. It seems to try, but not really.

I sprayed out the carburetor. In each orifice, I sprayed brake cleaner and it squirted out somewhere else, so all passages seem open.
gas tank is full

Engine cranks just fine. When I start it in gear, it wants to roll forward, so I think the flywheel key is fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Big snip

Moving foreward has nothing to do with the flywheel key.
Take off the top covers and check the two halves of the key slot line up to make a perfect square.
Slip off the rocker cover and make sure the valves are opening & closing
