What HP?

I bought a used Ferris ZTR lawnmower, the guy said it had a 37HP engine, the only label I can fine says Vanguard, no model, no serial number, 37 HP seems awful big.
How can I find out what I have actually got?

Look on the valve cover for model, type and code numbers. Many times they may be n the underside, as someone didn’t assemble them properly. With those numbers we can find engine size. Also post the units model and serial numbers which will tell the size of the original engine, in case it has been replaced.

 

[ILENGINE]

One some of the Vanguard engines the model number is on a riveted tag close to the oil filter. Others it is laser etched into the valve cover. And a 37hp would be the EFI version of the older 35 hp engine. So most likely a 61xxxx series.
