Fragrance? Japanese Privet, Russian Olive and Wisteria....

I see many posts about fragrant varieties. My driveway is lined with Lilac and Japanese Privet. Privet isn't the most attractive bush in the world, but it is often used as privacy hedge cover. If you keep it trim and pluck all the low suckers, it shapes up pretty well. For about two weeks in early spring, just before memorial day, the fragrance from the privet washes over the entire yard, carried on the breeze. Fantastic.

Also in my neighborhood there are many russian olive bushes growing wild along the road - the fragrance will literally stop passing cars. I've tried in vain to start one in my yard from cuttings.

But the ultimate for me is wisteria. if I ever get a chance, one of these days Im'a plant wisteria all up the front columns and along the portico. To my taste, there is nothing like an old, thriving wisteria plant overhead.
