Valve question

I am replacing a broken intake valve push rod on his Craftsman riding mower, the B&S engine code is 331877-0805-E1. When I opened the valve cover there were two small metal "caps" about the size of a pencil eraser. Not really sure where they go or what they do. My best guess is that they are valve stem caps that go on top of the valve stem and under the rocker arm. That is strictly a guess. Could someone tell me what they are and where they go? Pictures attached.

Those are the valve stem caps. they go on the end of the valve stem and is what the rocker arm pushes on to open the valve.

Good deal, so I'll set the gap between the top of that valve stem cap and the rocker arm?

Side note, you have come through for me a number of times, I truly appreciate your willingness to help.
