Troy Bilt 7 speed mower (13an77kg011) mowed fine a week ago when I parked it. Today the blades won't engage when I try the lever

Never felt any kind of pop or anything ( like something broke). When I engage the lever nothing happens. It feels like the lever isn't as hard to engage as usual, but it also doesn't feel like it's not engaging anything (if that makes sense).

Engine OFF.
Lower the deck as low as it will go, be sure the deck drive belt is routed around all pulleys. and that your engagement mechanism moves when you actuate the lever.
the pulley on the bracket (2) should tension the belt.
