will not engage either direction. tried to purge, did nothing. never have been able to free wheel. all it does is whine. 10 yr old craftsman with for & rev peddles

I would bet that the parking brake arm is stuck on the tranny. Should be located on the right side of the tranny. Will be a flat plate with a twist at the bottom to push the brake pins. Try pushing and pulling on the arm and see if it will release. It is common for rust to stick the brake lever.

its amazing what a little wd40 will do. i sprayed all the levers and freed up everything. thanks, now I can work on the electric problems. Havent even figured out a question yet.
