I have a '84 vintage Toro rear engine rider that I bought used several years ago and have had excellent service from it. A while back the seat broke loose and recently the safety switch under the seat malfunctioned and I was unable to get off the mower while running as I had previously. Now it won't start at all. The battery was replaced a few months ago, and I tried jumping it off yesterday, but was not successful, so am pretty sure it isn't the battery. All things considered, I think it's the safety switch under the seat since it recently began malfunctioning before the mower refused to start.

Any suggestions? Is there a way to bypass the safety switches? I have had more than my money's worth from this machine and would like to keep it if it can be fixed at minimal expense but am also open to the idea of getting another machine. Any opinions on new vs. used? I have had good luck with this used mower and like the rear engine flexibility.

Thanks!
