STX 38 hood

I have a John Deere STX 38 that is in great condition other than having no hood. The original hood was plastic and it became brittle and broke off. New replacement hoods are $300 to $400 and used hoods are very hard to come by. Has anyone had any luck with using a hood from another JD riding mower, or any other brand mower hood of a similar size?
