If anyone is interested,I have an old original Kohler 7 HP . The little guy has the cursive "International" logo intermingled with the Cub Cadet. Therefore it is a no-numbers model.
If I remember ,Dad bought it in 1965 or so. It just quit running one day,and years later,I discovered that the spark plug blew out of the hole. Dad was not much of a mechanic,so he parked it. It had a Delco starter-generator that never wore out. Timed blades with a 38" deck
I put a Heli-coil in the spark plug hole, and it ran again! Dad mowed tons of yard with it,and absolutely wore out two sets of tires. The front end did not have wheel bearings--just grease axles, and they are egg shaped from all the miles he put on them. He mowed about 20 hours a week.
I know that the engine had at least one short block replacement and possibly two. That's a lot of hours!
