Let me say I really like this Cub. I bought it sunday. Haven't actually mowed my yard yet, only a small section. When i first started it up it had a plasticy smell. Which I thought was normal. Then when I went and pressed the forward it had a loud humming noise and was even louder in reverse. It seemed like it only did it at first then went away. I started it up today and it was still there but wasnt as bad as it was the other day.

My question is, is it suppose to make a noise like this or is this not normal and I should be concerned.

The hydrostat transmission will make some noise when first running until it warms up a bit. Going uphill often times makes some noise as well, and makes alot more in the real cold temps.

Thanks, thought it was something like that. I kindof figured a brand new mower wouldnt be broke like that out of the box. Just for shits and giggles how do I check the fluid....To me it kind of sounds like a growl that a powersteering with no fluid in it ssounds like.
