Hi, I am from the UK, my Hayter with Briggs Stratton year 2001, the best engine mower I have ever owned! never had one issue till last summer when I started the engine on cold running for about 10 seconds big buff of blue smoke out of the exhaust.
Now is winter season I have taken my mower to piece and inspect and I have found that the bottom of the cylinder bore wall few fine scratches which is where the oil leaked into the combust chamber.
What is the alternative?
buy new normal-size piston rings or buy the one with a 0.030" for worn cylinder wall?

Thanks

First you are making assumptions and jumping to conclusions that the cylinder and/or rings are bad. Before going any farther please do the following.
1. Get yourself a Briggs repair manual for your engine.
2. Now follow the directions in the manual on how to properly measure bore size.
3. Compare your measurements with the specs for your engine.
4. At this point you can make a better decision as to how to proceed, but remember.
If you go with oversized rings, you will need to purchase and oversized piston.
If you go with oversized rings, you will need to have the bore resized.
Total cost of this project may be more than you realize.
A single puff of smoke could have been caused by a variety of things, valve sticking, oil over full, breather not working, etc. Most times I wouldn’t worry about it unless it continues to happen. Good Luck and f you have more questions please feel free to ask. I’m may be out of internet service the next few days, but there are good techs here who will answer them for you. Please disregard answers by the DIY guys when doing a project like this. Will only get you confused.
