Mower shut off while mowing

Looking for thoughts on why my ex mark shut of while mowing. I didn’t hit anything, inwas
Mowing and engine just shut off. I tried to restart and I hear a clicking noise similar to when trying to start mower with low or dead battery. Battery voltage reads 12.4 but when key is turned to start voltage drops to six. Is battery bad and if it is would this cause engine to shut off.
It seems all safety switches are working, all fuses are good. What would cause this thing to shut off?

Yes dropping to six volt will the engine to shut down as the carburetor fuel solenoid will drop out.

As for is the battery dead or not requires recharging and testing. You have a failed charging system or if have an electric PTO clutch a partially shorted PTO clutch winding.
