I have a Yardman riding mower its about 10 years old.
When I go in reverse its fine but when I go forward in any gear it jerks like it wants to go go but cant
and also makes a slamming noise. We noticed that there is oil coming out of the rear end.
Anyone have any idea of what could be going on.
Thanks

Post model & serial numbers from mower data plate or sticker. Time to tear transaxle down & rebuild or purchase a new transaxle.

There is a possibility the screws in the carrier inside the rearend have backed out and only one screw is holding the side gears. If so, the carrier will most likely require replacement.

The internal pinion gears in the diff are worn. You would need to split the diff and replace the forward side of the drive gears. If you look at the reverse side it will have no wear due to lower use. The diff is relatively easy to remove. Usually six bolts to chassis gear and brake arms, top pulley and wheels. Watch for ball bearing and Spring that is in gear change shaft. All parts available from MTD get new shaft bushes while diff out and refill with high temp grease stops diff whine.
