I need to change the Traction/Wheel drive belt on my John Deere L130. I appears that I need to remove the gear from the bottom of the steering shaft so that I can put the new belt on. Any suggestions on the procedure to replace the belt. My old belt is not broken, but worn and cracked.

Yes, remove the nut holding the gear on. Remove the gear, then you can push the shaft up out of your way by pulling up on the steering wheel.

this is from the Deere Manual, see if it helps you with the job -
