Hello everyone I have a kawi vertical shaft engine FH641V-AS19 the bearing surface has gone bad on the bottom crank case half and the pto end of the crank shaft is slightly galled where it rides in that bearing area. Has any one tried to repair these areas. Sure would like to fix, hate to trash whole engine. Thxs Deanner

Don't know if you have access to good machine shop or what your cost trade off is... If the case is aluminum it can be repaired with TIG welding and remachined-very common. If it is steel it could be repaired with bronze weld fill and machined. Latter is a bit of a specialty in marine/construction machine shops. My guess of cost?? Al $150, Bronze $250. Check out the Kaw case price first.

Edit I just reread about galled crankshaft (steel). There are sleeves some use for the shaft repair. The case would have to be oversize. Again you need a good machine shop. Don't forget motorcyle repair/speed shops for referral.
