Hi everyone. I purchased a used John Deere L100 last October. Needed a little work but it started and ran. It sat all winter in my garage. Last week, I did a basic tune-up (belts, filters, spark plug, oil change, blades, charged battery). When I tried to start it, the motor turns but won't fire. I checked the spark plug, it's firing. So I started checking the carburetor. It is getting fuel to carb. New Carb was cheap enough so I put a new one on. Still won't fire. Tried a little staring fluid in carb. Still won't fire. What am I missing?

Is gas fresh? If Briggs & Stratton engine you may need to adjust valves with engine cold. If B&S engine post model xxxxxx, type xxxx, trim xx, code xxxxxxxx. Is engine one or two cylinder? If you have engine manual, valve specs. are in manual. If valves are adjusted properly, compression release on camshaft is working as it should.
always use JD OEM replacement parts, same with engine if B&S engine use B&S parts.
remember you need fresh gas, good spark, good compression, clean air filter to start engine.
scroll down left side of page to troubleshooting section.
A must have JD Technical Service Manual on CD for $20 or used paperback $40 & up:https://www.google.com/search?q=JD+PART+TM2026&sxsrf=ALeKk03iIblxYvtlkITCLzrpoqxyNKZz_Q:1587163673788&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=bAn0cFIPRf6OiM%3A%2CxEQmPBod3mQnAM%2C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kTMWf0pKOs8aKVPuuYqBLO_Zcl-3A&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi0w-e3xfDoAhUvWN8KHYHQD8oQ9QEwCHoECAoQHg#imgrc=dcG_eembi7ypnM&imgdii=AaxjyK5QMuD_1M
Let us know how it goes, thanks, Mark
