I have a cub cadet 2135 that the cup lug or what I would call the front seal popped out and leaking oil. I was able to push it back in but don't know if it will hold is there supposed to be something to hold it in. this is a 13hp. horizontal shaft kohler engine.

After changing air filter & cleaning housing, drain oil, purchase new oil seal & a small tube of clear automotive silicone in which you will apply to outside diameter of new seal before installing, just a small amount around metal diameter of seal, add fresh oil to engine & give it a go. I check my air filter often, especially with the drought we're in.

There is no retainer, the oil seal is self retaining due to being a very slight interfearence fit.
They should never ever pop out.
They wear & then leak but only pop out if excessive force is being applied from the inside.
The breather tube is supposed to prevent excessive pressure building up.
So there is a least 1 problem , the breather
And perhaps a second, too much air under the piston due to worn rings or blown basket.
