Hey guys, just joined. Got a John Deere that has been in storage for about two years. I recently put drained the old fuel out and added some fresh fuel along with some Gumout injection/carb cleaner. This was after i removed the carburetor and took it apart to clean the old fuel and the lime out of it. Ive also sprayed it real good with carb cleaner. I've also changed the spark plug. when i spray some Gumout starter fluid in the air intake it starts but dies shortly after. No sure what else to try. im gonna try to include some pictures if it helps any. As you can see, there is some kind of plastic "Z" shaped item that goes from the carb to the air filter and to the engine itself. idk if im missing something but how do i get the fuel to go down from the gas tank then back up into the engine?

There is more to cleaning the carb than spraying it with some gunk.
Pull it fully apart and clean out all of the holes, if necessary with some copper wire or fishing line.
Particularly the main jet and the spray tube.

Thank you for the quick response! So you'd recommend that take it apart and clean it out one more time? Other than using the wire, is there a special chemical or procedure I follow? I heard letting it soak in fresh gas would help loosen up some of the lime or sludge that might be in be in it. Im pretty hesitant to do so since idk if it would hurt anything. Also, I'm still having trouble understanding how the gas flow down to the carb then up to the engine

I like to use carb cleaner with a straw to clean out jets & passages. Once that soaks use compressed air to clean out. If you don't have an air compressor then you can use those compressed air cans(used for knocking off dust on keyboards & computers) that have a straw. You also use a bread tie for an instant wire, just burn off the plastic with a lighter.
There are plenty of carb cleaning videos on youtube as well.
