I stumbled across this forum while searching for an answer to my problem. I have a JD 175 that I got as a parts tractor that I am now trying to bring back to life. I recently put on a good starter and wiring harness. However, when I went to start it, it did didn't crank. I bypassed the switches by connected the battery and starter via jumper cables. This made it crank. I believe that it is a safety switch issue because the switches I installed came off of a good running JD 165. The only thing that is not hooked up on the 175 is the pto clutch because the previous owner cut the end of the wire from the clutch. Does it have to be hooked up for it to start? If so, is there a way to wire that directly? Thanks.
