I have a 2014 ariens lawn tractor (briggs & stratton engine) it will only start if i remove the air filter ang hold ny hand against th air intake..once starter it runs rough at first bou settles down and will continue to run until i shut it off...what might be the problem.

Partially clogged main jet in the carb, choke plate not closing, bad fuel, etc. How about the model number of the briggs engine so we can see what kind of fuel system is present.
