Have a 2008 Hustler Model 928481and planning on changing the Hydrostatic Transmission fluid. Prior to starting the process, check to ensure the Bypass Valves to disengage the transmission are working allowing to bleed the system. Right side transmission will disengage, Left side remains in "gear" when the steering controls are placed in the forward and reverse positions. Is the Bypass Valve issue simple to fix or will the mower need to be taken to the shop to address the problem? Thanks

Did you check the owners manual carefully?
on ZTRs some times the valves work in opposite directions & some work in the same directions
Both turn counter clockwise = needle valve, one full turn
Both push forward or backward = ball valve 1/4 turn

The owner's manual for this model does not discussion the ByPass Valve in much detail, only in moving the tractor when stalled. The attached photos show the left side ByPass Valve, which is the side which is not disengaging, in the Engaged and Disengaged positions.

It is likely that lever has gotten sprung over time and simply not pulling the bypass lever on the transaxle fully into the disengaged position.

If that is the case, would I be able to repair or will the mower need to go into the shop?

Yes because all you got to do then is bend it back. But to be sure disconnect the end at the transaxle lever while the mower is raised up so you can rotate lever to disengage and have a helper turn the wheel to be sure it is the problem. If it is then the wheel will freely turn when compare the normal position. Now the linkage is held in place with a cotter key.
