I have a 1986 JD 180 and when the steering gets real heavy I use a 10mm wrench to remove the car screw that holds the panel at the lower part of the dash.
This gives me access to the lower steering shaft.

I spray it with wd40 and turn the steering wheel until it runs down the shaft into the bushing and it makes a world of difference in how it steers.

I don't know but probably a lot of other models have this same design.
The bushing was much cheaper than installing a ball bearing but it sure would have been nice if it had a bearing instead of that bushing.

Keep it oiled guy's you won't believe the difference it makes.
