Hi
I'am interrested in a used LTR 180 John Deere from 2004, but is it as good as I think?
Where must I be carefull, which proplems must I look for at this model.
I think this model is the right one for my 3500 m2 / almost one acre with lawn......not 90 acres, hit error...

I bought a new 180 JD with the Kawasaki engine back in 1986 have not put a wrench to it in 25 years.
Not big enough for plow or tiller but sure a nice little mower.

I have the power flow bagger system on mine and it will cut deep wet grass without clogging.
JD builds outstanding mower unless you get one of those cheap things built to compete with MTD and Ranch King and sold a the BB stores.

Do you make the service on your John Deere yourself ?

I have done nothing to it other than change the oil but yes I do my own work if it needs anything.

The LTR 180, and the 1986 180 (no letter designations) seem to be simmilar, but not exactly alike, light tractors.

I have heard bad things about the reliability of the Briggs-powered 180's (mainly charging issues), and I heard them from a neighbor when I was younger - in 1990 - who let me use his when I mowed his grass. Very solid machine. (I didn't maintain it, but I did have to use our Wheel Horse on his lawn, while his JD 180 went back to the shop numerous times for charging issues) but don't know a thing about the LTR 180.

Realize, though, that they are not one in the same - you are looking at a very new tractor, not the one from 1986 that has been commented on (including me).

OK... I am so glad you will not be trying to mow 90 acres with the LTR 180 John Deere...

For under an acre you should be fine...
So now you have to determine how used the 7 year old mower really is..
It has no hour meter so you may not really know how much mowing it has seen..
Are you buying it from an individual that you know?? Are you getting a good enough price to take a chance ??
Look at it close, used equipment can be a GREAT deal... I always prefer a good used anything over a new... :smile:KennyV

twall is right it is a light lawn tractor ... given the choice between the 1986 and the 2004, I'd take the older one... but for light mowing if your 04 id in good shape it should do what you need, just don't use it like a garden tractor... It was intended to be a mower only.... :smile:KennyV

The John Deere is only for mowing the lawn once every week in front, a then once every second week behind my little farm...
The reson that I look at John Deere is, that I hope it is better build than the Weekeater I have today and better then the MTD, Partner and Husqvarna that I can buy here in europe for $ 3000,- not a bad word about the other brands, but I don't want to buy another lawnmower in 3 years because the motor broke or the rest of the mower just isn't any good quality.....

Here are some pictures....I will go there and check it next week, so that I'am sure it as good as he says.
The John Deere is on sale in a lawn mower shop.....
